Hello, beautiful daydreamers, mischief-makers, and restless souls. I am so glad we have found each other. Welcome to the Isle of Neverwas. 

I’m Sam, a lifelong dreamer, designer of adorable crochet characters, and a storyteller of magical tales. I love stories; they can inspire us, taking us on a journey. Stories are powerful; they can ignite our imagination and help us better understand ourselves and the world around us.

When I first started designing crochet patterns, my goal was to create “joy one stitch at a time”. My first patterns were for crocheted accessories. My taste is eclectic, and my early designs were influenced by the books I read, the TV and movies I watched, and the music I listened to. I enjoy discovering new favourite things to challenge and inspire me.

My passion now is designing and crocheting colourful characters. I love to crochet. I get an itch at the back of my brain, my fingers get twitchy, and I know I need to make something; I can’t help myself. Sometimes I start with the sketch of the character I’m designing, but not always. As I begin to crochet them, they whisper their stories to me. I thought it would be a fun idea to write a short story to go with each pattern I designed.

My story begins with Travelling Ava, a magical traveling doll, adventurer, and explorer. Ava has explored as far away as Australia, she has been to the Northernmost point of Europe, and has had many adventures closer to home. Travelling Ava also has magical adventures. I never imagined when I started designing my crochet characters and writing their stories that what I was working on would become the Isle of Neverwas.

Travelling Ava never gets lost. She might not know where she is going, but she knows it will be an adventure. She follows her curiosity and always takes the scenic route. Ava likes to take the long way round.

I’m also taking the scenic route. Our journey is shaped by the people we meet and the experiences we have along the way. For me, it is important to live every day with intention, a life that is full of hope and moments of joy. I have taken my time designing my collection of crochet patterns, creating a community for my island full of quirky characters. At the heart of the Isle of Neverwas is curiosity, joy, and hope. I can’t wait for you to visit the island and meet them.

Let’s follow our curiosity and try something new, let’s keep learning and making discoveries together. I’m finding out new things about the Isle of Neverwas all the time. This is our permission to let our imaginations play. Let’s explore the things that spark joy and bring our souls happiness.

Joy

Joy is important. Joy can be created and shared. You can find small moments of joy sprinkled throughout your day; they shimmer and sparkle like glitter, so even in the dark, we can still see them. Creating and sharing moments of joy is something I am passionate about. It is at the heart of everything I do. Let’s live life with more whimsy and less adulting.

Hope

Not every day is a good day, but the Isle of Neverws provides us with a safe place for our imaginations to rest and play for a while. Take a moment to hit the pause button, make a discovery, create something, or listen to a story. We might not have all the answers right now, but we are hopeful that things will work out and in the end everything will be okay.

I’m a crochet designer, storyteller, and curator. I’m helping Pixie, Bumble, and Travelling Ava to create a collection, bringing their magical adventures and colourful crochet friends into the real world. Through crochet and storytelling, I’m gathering together a community of like-minded rebels. Creating and sharing glimmers of joy. This island is for my daydreamers, mischief-makers, and restless souls. We all need a little bit of magic and stardust.
